School’s out for SUMMER! Are you eagerly looking for fun summer activities for kids or for ways to help keep them busy? Not to worry! NuMoola is here to help provide some ideas to keep them busy and engaged as well as bring in some financial literacy fun.
Spend Time Outside
Summer is a great time to encourage your kids to spend as much time as possible outside! Let them go play, enjoy the warmth of the sun, and breathe in the smell of freshly cut grass. It\’s also a perfect opportunity to make memories together. Teach them about the games you played outside as a kid such as flashlight tag, Capture the Flag, Red Light Green Light, wiffle ball, or “Mother May I?”.
Do you have a young entrepreneur that is eager to make some money to add to their savings? Some summer ideas for their business venture are:
- Run a lemonade stand
- Walking dogs
- Offer to help with yard work
- Have a car wash
These activities encourage kids to have fun and enjoy the outside while teaching them how to make money through the value of hard work and getting paid for their hard work. It’s also great to see their savings grow!
Museums
If you are trying to find a budget-friendly way to get out of the house on a rainy day, find a local museum that interests your Crew! Museums can provide educational opportunities that allow kids to explore their interests through engaging activities and hands-on exhibits.
Together, research the museum they would like to attend and check out the price of admission. Then, help your kid create a Savings Goal in the app to save money to be able to go. When the weather isn’t cooperating, complete the Savings Goal and head to the museum!
Involve The Kids In Family Meals
“What’s for dinner?” or “When are we going to eat?” are questions we often hear. One simple way to help alleviate this is to get your kids involved in planning and making their snacks and meals! Cooking will not only teach them important life skills, but you can turn it into a financial lesson as well! Once you’re ready to start cooking, you can create a NuMoola Mission and delegate them to make the salad for dinner. Start with having them help you plan and prepare food a few items each week.
Another idea is to create a grocery list together and stick to that list at the store. They can check out the prices for ingredients, participate when it’s time to pay, and see the total grocery bill. Compare your total the next time you visit the store. Was it higher or lower and why?
Older kids can learn budgeting skills by seeing what is on sale that week and planning meals from those items. They can also learn to track what is spent at the grocery store. These activities can help teach important financial literacy skills while increasing their emotional investment in the meals and giving them a sense of responsibility.
Game Night
There are plenty of engaging board games you can play with your kids this summer. Some examples include Monopoly, Life, Payday, and The Entrepreneurship Game. These games are not only fun, but they can help teach your kids important life skills about money management!
These fun summer activities for kids can help promote healthy growth, develop skills, and improve a child’s self-esteem. If you try any of these out, tag NuMoola on social media if you want us to share your post on our page potentially!
